01, The first online connection equipment in the national railway application

Recently, the flexible contact line intelligent connection equipment cooperated by Tianjin Santroll and Chengdu TangYuan Electric Co., Ltd., a domestic listed company, successfully completed on-site commissioning in the Shijiazhuang power supply section of China Railway Beijing Bureau Group Co., LTD., marking the first set of domestic contact line intelligent connection equipment achieved excellent results in the national railway contact line welding operation scenario.

The reason to develop this set of equipment is because the high-speed rail wiring network is a special power supply line without backup. After the line break fault occurs in the overhead contact line due to excessive local wear, abnormal defects or some unexpected accidents during operation, in order not to affect the normal operation of passenger transport, the maintenance and treatment of line break fault adhere to the principle of "first through and then back" and "first through line". It is required that the operator can quickly, safely and with high quality complete the disconnection of the overhead contact system. Through the unremitting efforts and continuous technological innovation of Tianjin Santroll R & D team, the equipment has been upgraded several times to meet the application requirements of high-speed rail.

The flexible contact line intelligent splicing equipment adopts cold pressure welding to realize the welding of the contact line joint, which can realize the precise docking of the broken line. After the welding, the excess base material will be automatically removed, and the mechanical and electrical properties will remain unchanged. According to the demand of Shijiazhuang power supply section of China Railway Beijing Bureau, Santroll R & D personnel integrated the wire welding operation device with the welding equipment in combination with the characteristics of the car body, and rationally arranged it on the operation platform. At the same time, the structural lightweight design of the welding machine was carried out, and the grinding device was integrated. The other systems and components remained unchanged. Before the delivery of the equipment, it has undergone several and multi-place welding tests, and the tests of key parameters such as mechanics and electricity of the welded samples meet the requirements of the national standard TB/t 2809-2017 copper and copper alloy contact wire for electrified railway.

Research and development of flexible contact line connection equipment


Flexible contact line intelligent welding equipment began research in 2017, the current third-generation welding equipment technology is mature, stable performance, and applied for invention patents. In 2021, the self-made test line in Tangshan power supply section completed the wire welding test and achieved success, and realized the effective welding of the catenary line break, which marked the first application of metal fusion technology in the domestic high-speed rail industry.

First survey of Tangshan power supply section in 2021


By the end of 2024, the customer will complete the acceptance of the equipment before delivery, all acceptance items are qualified, and on-site operation demonstration will be conducted.

In mid-March 2025, the contact line intelligent welding equipment was successfully debuted on site in China Railway - Shijiazhuang power supply section, and Santroll R & D personnel carried out theoretical training for simulation test drills and station operators. Cao Duan, head of Shijiazhuang power supply section of China Railway Beijing Bureau Group Co., LTD., participated in the whole test exercise, put forward innovative suggestions for technology, equipment and connection results, and also affirmed the results of this welding operation.


02, Online cold press connection process through the actual test

Previously, Tianjin Santroll and Tianjin Railway Power Supply Co., Ltd. successfully signed a cooperation agreement. The cold crimping breakpoint connection process of contact line was implemented in the main line contact line of Tianjin Metro Line 5 on December 9, 2024, and has been connected to the network for 3 months by March 2025. During the feedback trial operation, Jintie Power Supply Co., Ltd. checked that the process connection point had no cracks, no abnormal connection, no trace of arc, smooth line surface, no wire drawing, no ripple, and the contact line busbar was well matched. No stripping, stable performance, reliable operation, the process successfully through trial operation, can be widely used in rigid contact line connection and local line change work.

03,The four major cities subway interaction, a total of new technology to promote the industry

From 2024 to the beginning of 2025, Shanghai Metro, Beijing Metro, Suzhou Metro and Shenzhen Metro have exchanged visits for many times, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the welding problems of the contact line in the rail transit industry, efforts to promote the implementation of the local line change process of the contact line, and the problems and pain points existing in the sustainable development of rail transit. At present, a number of projects are under negotiation.
